Peter Horobin Equestrian Victoria State Interschool State Championships
Entries close 26 Feb 2017
Entries are flowing in for the State Championships and it is evident many riders have been out competing at Interschool events to achieve their participation qualification. This qualification requirement was communicated many times at and since the 2016 State Championships, but it appears some riders have either missed the communication or have expected that exemptions would be granted.
The committee have decided that granting exemptions on a case by case basis is not feasible and do not want to disadvantage riders that have genuinely missed the communications. Therefore, the requirement to have competed at an interschool event will not be enforced for this year’s event, however 2018 will have qualification requirements. We would like to remind coaches, riders and school team co-ordinators that it is your responsibility to ensure riders enter classes that they are suitably competent and experienced to compete in.
We hope this alleviates anxious riders and parents that did not have a participation qualification and that you can now enter the biggest Interschool event and represent your school.

NATIONAL INTERSCHOOL RULE CHANGES THAT NOW APPLY TO ALL INTERSCHOOL EVENTS
The National Interschool Rules have been updated and several important changes come into effect on 1 January 2017. It is the responsibility of all riders and supporters to understand the rules. Full details can be found here http://www.equestrian.org.au/…/national-interschool-rules-c…, key changes are as follows:
All horses and ponies must be four years of age or older to compete in Interschool competitions (Including dressage and show horse)
Age of Athletes
Primary competition is restricted to athletes enrolled up to and including year/grade 6 in the year of competition.
Intermediate is defined as those athletes enrolled in years 7, 8 and 9, senior divisions are for those athletes enrolled in years 10, 11 and 12 in the current year.
Definition of schools has been changed to include TAFE where a student under the age of 19 years is enrolled in full time study but does not include TAFE (part time), University or other technical colleges.
Participation at an Interschool Event is required to compete at State Championships in 2017
Riders must have evidence of participation at one Interschool event to enter the 2017 State Championships. It is not necessary for riders to have competed in every discipline they would like to compete in. There are no minimum qualification scores or required placings, you simply need to have competed on the horse/pony you are entering at the State championships.
The requirements for participation in 2017 were communicated in the 2016 State Championship Schedule and via previous emails.
Calendar of Interschool events can be found here - http://www.veis.com.au. There are two events coming up at Boneo Park in December and some events on the VEIS calendar for February if you have not already been out to an Interschool event (2016 State Championships is not recognised as a participation), you need to have attended an event since the championships.
Planning is in progress. The event will run from Saturday 8th April to Wednesday 12th April 2017.
The timetable of events is being reviewed and will likely start with Show Jumping and have Show Horse at the end of the week to accommodate potential event clashes, this is to be confirmed.
Australian Championships will be in Toowoomba Queensland from 25th to 29th September 2017. Queensland run a fabulous event and we shall have more information to send regarding this event soon.
