Some of Australia's top young Vaulters have travelled to Europe to represent Australia and gain valuable competition experience on the world stage.

Lani Maher and Lee Briggs from the Southern Highlands this week achieved their combined goal of representing Australia as individuals at the Aachen CHIO held on the 29 June to 1 July 2012. The invitation only event saw the world’s top 27 females and 16 males compete in front of packed audiences. Maher, 16 and Briggs, 18, along with Emma Moulds from South Australia were selected to represent Australia at this prestigious event. All three travelled to Germany in June this year, living and training in various locations in preparation to compete on their respective mounts and all competed in the CVI Krumke, Germany earlier in June in the lead up to this event, along with Zac Singlehurst, 15 also from SA, competing in his first CVI.

According to Maher; “Krumke was such a great competition and so much fun. It was my first European CVI and a competition different to any other I have competed in. It was a qualification for both the European Champions and the World Championships for many countries so the stakes were set extremely high. It’s unlike anything in Australia, to have so many vaulters that are just so good. Despite the high importance of this competition for lots of vaulters, everyone was still so friendly and welcoming. I was so happy with how I went. As always much was learnt but for the first international competition for the year it was a great start. My horse, Riva, was fantastic and together with my lunger Stefan Lotzmann, I have to say I think we made a pretty good team.”

All three Australians are now continuing their training in Europe in preparation for the World Vaulting Championships to be held in Le Mans France in August.
