Announcement – Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre Update

Equestrian sports have been held in the Werribee Park precinct for almost 45 years. Since 1984, Equestrian Victoria (EV) and the Victorian Polo Club have jointly held the lease for the current Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre site from the Crown, with the lease paid to Parks Victoria.

Over the past two years, EV has been working closely with Sport and Recreation Victoria and Parks Victoria on securing a bright and sustainable future for the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre site.

In the stakeholder survey undertaken by Otium for the Victorian Equestrian Facilities Plan, our members and other equestrian sporting stakeholders identified Werribee Park as the most suitable and accessible site to have a State Equestrian Centre. Stakeholder feedback also clearly showed that Werribee Park is in need of significant improvements and upgrades in order to meet the needs of equestrian sport in Victoria into the future.

In July this year, EV, on behalf of the wider Victorian equestrian community, submitted a lease proposal to Parks Victoria for the site.

In preparation for this lease, EV is currently working with Sport and Recreation Victoria to develop a Master Plan for the site. This Master Plan project will refer to the needs of equestrian disciplines and groups as captured in the Otium report, and present several options for the improvement of the site. These options will then be presented to support a funding application to the Victorian Government.

EV has the interests of our members and the broader Victorian equestrian community at heart and recognises the need for long term planning to ensure that facilities are available to support equestrian sport at all levels. Our stakeholders will be engaged throughout the project. We also hope to be able to release the final Otium report in the next few weeks.

We will keep you up to date as this exciting project progresses!
