Victorians have great results at South Australian State Championships

The South Australian State Championships have been concluded and the large contingent of Victorian riders had some fabulous results. The organisers wished me to thank these riders and their families for their fantastic sportsmanship, pitching in and helping and also the attitude to organisers and officials. It was remarked on the very high standard that the Vics displayed throughout the event so well done to all involved. I am sure the Victorian riders would like me to take this opportunity to thank the organisers on a very well received event.

The annual teams challenge saw South Australia victorious across the three divisions. Our Juniors, consisting of Jacob Wells (taking out the SA Junior title again for 2015!), Joel Pearce, Max Height and Sam Robertson were pipped by one rail. The Young Riders of Melissa Backman, Binni Greig & Teagan Chester had no discard score with the withdrawal of Jake Wells so although even after round 1, round 2 got away from them and SA scored an easy win. The Senior team consisted of Paul Brent, Jess Barton, Robbie Agnew and Jasmine Dennison (who is the current SA Senior Champion with Kristy Bruhn after an incredible tie for first in the Championship!!) and they were beaten again behind SA and in front of WA for second place.

Obviously the big one is Jasmine Dennison who is taking all before her with another stellar performance that saw a jumpoff in the exact same time as Kristy Bruhn to be equal 1st in the SA Senior TItle for 2015, a result all the more impressive when you take into account Jasmine is too young for Young Riders so rode in the Senior division instead.  Jacob Wells on Valhalla came in 6th.   Jake Wells also took away a state title after winning the Junior Championship with PB Poets Corner, a horse that has given Jake a very impressive list of results over the past few years including two other state titles.  In fact we did have four riders out of the final 6 placings with Emily van Sonsbeek, Chloe Dennison and Max Height.  The Young Rider Championships saw Dominque Stevens dominate placing 2nd and 6th!  Melissa Backman on the very consistent Blackall Park Choloe came in 3rd with Nicole Bruggeman taking out number 1 spot.

Other stand out results were the Futurity with Paul Brent and Cavalli Park Annibell winning from Jess Barton, David Lever and Brett Hickey taking the four top placings; Angus Wright-Smith reserve in the Speed Championship on Yarra Valley Jelly Bean, and Jasmine winning the John Bruggeman Grand Prix.  The full list of the other successes can be found at

Jumping Victoria thank all these riders for their representation of the state in the teams competitions, the Chef Robbie Agnew, and congratulate the long list of very successful riders coming away from the event with significant placings.
