Westernport Dressage Club Hygain Premier Cup report written by Dana Krause

It was the start of daylight savings but well worth the early morning! It was a beautiful day do at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre for the running of the Westernport Dressage Club (WDC) Hygain Premier Cup Championship. It was a competition that will surely be bookmarked in people's calendars for next year. The quality and strength of the classes was amazing considering it was not only the week after the Boneo CDI but was also a long weekend. WDC organised a fantastic range of judges including interstate A level judge Susie Duddy , Victorian A level judges: Jan Smith, Sue Chandler, Helen Heagney as well as many of our other highly regarded Victorian Judges.

The first class to begin was the highly competitive Preliminary class and we were off to the start of what was a fluent day with so many highlights. Erin Bullock riding Miss Fanta had two fabulous rides for such a new combination winning the Preliminary Championship as well as winning the Young Rider High Point award for the day. Also in the pony Preliminary Sally Shaw riding Wellbrook Jigsaw won the both classes and the Pony High Point Award. Another highly competitive class was the Novice class with 7 ponies and 22 horses but our own Jami Hurley and JMH Roknroyl came out on top winning both classes and the Novice Championship as well as the WDC High Point and the Amateur Owner Rider (AOR) High Point placing her in second place on the Victorian leader board for AOR Novice rider. The Elementary classes were won by last year's Hygain Premier Cup winner Janet Seccull on her gorgeous grey Free Cloud won the taking out the Championship. In the Medium the ever lovely Saddleup Romper Stomper with Maree Tomkinson performed two graceful tests which not only crowned her the Medium Champion but also the WDC Hygain Premier Cup. In the Advanced the always gorgeous Yarramee B Bear ridden by another WDC member Sharyn McCombe won both tests along with the Advanced Championships.

Michael Baker and Jaybee Alexander won the PSG whilst Kerry Mack and Mayfield Be Brave won the Inter 1. Susan Nevett and Clifton Court Laurenz won both the Inter A class and Inter 2 and Fiona Selby riding Tacita won the Grand Prix and the FEI High Point, such an enjoyable combination to watch.

What great sponsors Hygain are, not only are they feeding our champions but they are also rewarding them with fabulous prizes, winners and placegetters were thrilled with the prizes received. Top Gear Equestrian Apparel supplied us with the much loved vouchers for some lucky riders and the Championship rugs made by Piaffe were gorgeous! The competition ran smoothly and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Looking forward to next years!
