Show Horse Committee Report - 21 July

The EV Showhorse Committee met remotely on the evening of Tuesday 21 July and reports the following updates.

Acknowledgment was made of the sad passing of Rob Gaylard. Rob was so well known to many of us as the commentary voice of Adelaide, Melbourne and Canberra Royal Shows as well as Barastoc for 6 years and the VAS Show.

Condolences have been conveyed to Rob's family.

The conduct and timing of the Australasian Showhorse and Rider Championships was discussed at length.

With the obvious uncertainty of being able to hold this important event at the scheduled 3-5 December due to the COVID 19 restrictions, alternate dates were considered should we need to delay the event. However at this time it is the committee's intention to proceed with planning for the current December date. If Government restrictions prevent this from occurring, then later options are in place.

COMPETITORS CAN BE ASSURED THAT YOUR COMMITTEE WILL DO EVERYTHING WITHIN ITS POWER TO ENSURE THAT THIS EVENT TAKES PLACE AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY.

Barastoc
12th - 14th February 2021. Entries close 14 December 2020

Plans are underway for next year's HOTY and the following changes have been made to the program.

  • Due to the cancellation of so many agricultural shows due to COVID 19, qualifications will NOT be required for any section of Barastoc 2021.
  • The two Leading Rein classes will not be held on Children's Day (12 Feb) but will be included in their appropriate sections of Showhunters (Saturday) and Hacks (Sunday).
  • There will be a special Under 9 Rider class (non-championship) on Children's Day.
  • The Junior Rider Championship will be Under 12 years with no lower age group.
  • In the Newcomer Section, the 2 pony hack classes will be 12.2h and under and over 12.2h not ex 14h.
  • In the OTT classes, the Freshman's class will become a Newcomer with the same conditions as the Newcomer section.
In this class there will be a special award for the highest placed "Freshman" which has raced after 1/1/2018.

EV Clinics and Measuring Days
Although we have been forced to cancel the proposed clinics in July and August, we are investigating alternate dates later in the year if and when Government regulations allow us to conduct these.

Spring Show
The program for the Spring Show on October 4 has been released and plans are in place to run this event, again subject to Govt regulations.

Summer Show
The popular Summer Breeds Extravaganza has been booked for 8, 9, 10 January with 16 rings already confirmed. EV will again run two Showhorse rings.

Keep safe everyone and stay positive that we will be able to conduct our array of scheduled events.

Kind regards
Peter Heagney
