XC Controller Course 2025
The recent XC Control Workshop held at Werribee Park was a terrific success, bringing together a keen and enthusiastic group of participants eager to learn more about one of the most critical roles in eventing. It was wonderful to see people stepping forward with genuine interest in supporting their clubs and events by taking on the role of Cross Country Controller.
Across the day, attendees explored the core responsibilities of XC Control, the importance of effective communication, and the key principles of risk management that underpin safe and efficient cross-country operations. The workshop also delved into suggested control room methods, practical tips, and a wealth of real-life experiences, complete with the usual tales of chaos, triumph, and the occasional radio-induced heart attack.
What truly elevated the workshop was the fantastic interaction and collaboration between participants from Pony Club, HRCAV, and EA. The mix of backgrounds created rich discussion, shared learning, and a sense of community that reflects the very best of our sport.
Although originally planned as a four-hour session, the workshop stretched to five, and not a single person drifted off! The level of engagement, questions, and conversation throughout the day was incredible, and a testament to the enthusiasm in the room.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, asked questions, and embraced the opportunity to learn. Your willingness to build your skills and support our events ensures a stronger, safer, and more sustainable future for cross country in Victoria.
With the level of interest from others that could not make it, another workshop might be planned for January / February 2026. Watch this space.
