Vale Marg McIver

The equestrian community was saddened to hear of the passing of Honorary Life Member, Marg (Margaret) McIver, aged 86 on July 21.

Margaret was also a Life Member of the Victorian Dressage Club, LIfe Member of Equestrian Australia and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Ballarat in 2007, in recognition of her contribution to dressage in Australia as an Olympic competitor, dressage coach and judge.

Margaret's family said :

"This morning we lost a special mother, grandmother, friend, coach, supporter, trail blazer, and our sassy matriarch, our Margie. She passed quickly, peacefully and surrounded by love”

Riding her Thoroughbred horse CK (named after Colin Kelly), Margaret was Australia's first Dressage representative at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles 1984. Though internationally known for dressage, Margaret was very involved in showjumping and was a regular at Melbourne Royal riding Bonanza. A true horsewoman, Margaret also competed in eventing in the days where one had to be very brave to tackle miles of roads and tracks, steeplechase and frighteningly tall fences. Marg placed second in the Open at Melbourne with Pyewacket in the 1970s.

A legendary horsewoman, she will be always be remembered and very sadly missed by many.

Our sincerest condolonces to Marg's family.

Marg England, Carol Simpson and Marg McIver.
