Marcus Oldham Australian Interschool Championships Cancelled

Equestrian Victoria is sad to announce the decision to cancel the Marcus Oldham Australian Interschool Championships for 2021.

Unfortunately, like many events this year, the ongoing restrictions and impacts of the pandemic have meant that an alternative option was not able to be found to enable Victoria to host this key national competition this year.

“This difficult decision has been made with heavy hearts, and we thank the wonderful organising committee who have already put in so much time to try to make the event come to reality,” said Wendy van Sonsbeek, Event Director.

“We needed to consider the ever-changing border closure situation and the impacts this would and could have on riders and their families in not just attending the event, but also in their ability to return home safely.  The health and safety of our community is paramount.”

Interschool Victoria Director, Julia Williams said, “To our Victorian team members, we are so proud of you and congratulate you on your selection as state representatives.  To those participants who are in our top age, our hearts go out to you with this disappointing news in your final year of participating in the Australian Interschool Championships and hope that you hold the memories from your Interschool journey closely, as you move into adult competition.

The organising committee also extends their thoughts to the Interschool community across the country, congratulating each rider on their achievements.”

Equestrian Victoria would like to acknowledge naming rights sponsor, Marcus Oldham, thanking them for their courage and continued support of our young riders in Victoria and nationally, particularly in these challenging times.  Marcus Oldham are an agricultural and equine business management tertiary education institution located in Geelong, Victoria.  Internationally recognised by major sectors of the horse industry, the Marcus Oldham Diploma of Equine Management equips students with the business skills, horse husbandry experience and scientific knowledge necessary for a successful career in their chosen field, whether it be breeding, racing, equestrian or other related activities.

We hope that the Interschool community will still show their support through the purchasing of the official 2021 event merchandise available online at: – orders over $150 receive free postage.

“We now look ahead to 2022 and look forward to our Victorian Interschool community coming together at the Victorian State Interschool Championships which are scheduled for 9 to 13 April 2022 at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre,” said Ms Williams.
