Young Rider Course Walk Success!

Despite the pouring rain and soggy footing, the Young Rider XC Course Walk was a success! The riders who braved the weather had a great time chatting, asking questions, and connecting with fellow riders in a fun and supportive setting, fuelled by plenty of lollies. It was exactly the kind of atmosphere I hoped these walks would create! 

I was incredibly grateful for the support of the Candlebark Horse Trials committee, who helped make the initiative run smoothly and provided wonderful feedback throughout the weekend. Their encouragement has really motivated me to continue growing this program further. 

One of the highlights for me was walking the course with XC Course Designer Will Foulkes. He thoughtfully shared his expertise, explaining how each jump is intentionally placed to influence rhythm, rider decision-making, and horse confidence. Gaining a behind-the-scenes look at how a course is designed added great depth to my conversations with other riders and gave me a new appreciation for those involved in running the XC phase of competition! 

With such positive feedback and strong support, I’m excited to bring this Young Rider Course Walk initiative to many more Equestrian Victoria events in the future.
