Wrap-Up 2019 Horseware Australia Victorian Interschool Championships

The 2019 Horseware Australia Victorian Interschool Championships concluded on Sunday after an action-packed week at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre.

Werribee Parl was a bustling centre of activity last week for the 2019 Horseware Australia sponsored Victorian Intershool Championships.

The event showcased the future generation of equestrian athletes as they represented their schools, at what has become a highly anticipated annual event. This event offers Interschool competitors the opportunity to qualify for a position on the Victorian Team which will represent the state at the National Championships held later this year.

With competitors vying for a spot on the Victorian Team, the competition was hot! The Victorian Interschool Championships caters for riders of all ages, interests and abilities; with classes ranging from Preparatory dressage, to novelties, showjumping and showing.  

In the Primary Combined Training competition, Allegra Newman rode her Fox Mulder to take out the 35cm Championship. Rosemary Heagney, Theodora Newman and Jack Barker were also victorious in their respective Primary classes. 

In the secondary classes, Hannah Bird riding her mare Kirby Park Irish Consort took out the 2** Combined Training class. Madeleine Theobold went on to take the win ahead of Alanna Malkoc in the 1* competition. Other winners included Charlotte Pennefather, Kelsey Josephs, Olivia Gillespie,  Lamoza Velisha, Hannah Spencer and Millie Ritchie. 

The Show Jumping competitors put on quite the display with some slick rounds and strategic play. The Primary 45cm Championship went to Montannah Growcott aboard Vichand I Told You so.  The Secondary 1.20m Championship was taken out by Hannah Wigg and her mount Clifton Court Luxardo, after two days of hotly contested competition.

The winners of each championship class were treated to Horseware trophy rugs, kindly donated by Horseware Australia, the naming rights sponsor of the 2019 Victorian Interschool Championships. 

Increasingly popular were the Novelties and Handy Mount classes which offer participants the opportunity to test their horsemanship and have some fun! Always a highlight of the week, this year saw Ava Harrington, Isabelle Smith and Amelia Harvey take out the Primary classes.  

In the Secondary competition, Annie Creed, Molly Lawrence and Cohen Wade were also crowned victorious.

Next is was our dressage competitors time to shine, with classes fostering grass-roots development such as the primary Preparatory, through to elite competition in the Small Tour. 

Over three days of tough competition, Primary and Secondary riders put their best hooves forward to impress the judges. In competitions where there were more than one division, competitors rode off in a final to decide the overall championship. 

In the Secondary competition Gabriella Officer, Dakoda Lyne, Ava Braniff, Mackenzie Bright, Lily Cowburn, Olivia Gillespie, and Isabelle Luxdmoore were highly successful, claiming championships. Brooke Mance riding Callum Park Freya, claimed victory over Jazi French and Florinzz in the Secondary Small Tour Championship. The Small Tour event showcased the professionalism of the senior competitors.

A crowd favourite, the Ashford Park Sponsored Freestyle Dressage competition, saw Indi Officer ride to victory aboard Devlin Park Time Will Tell in the Novice section. Eliza Bell claimed the Elementary, whilst Bella Warner wowed the judges in the Medium. Isabelle Luxmoore rode her highly competitive Linus WK to take out the Advanced freestyle. 

On Saturday, the Prydes Easifeed Sponsored Show Horse classes commenced, with both Primary and Secondary Show Horse, Show Hunter and Working Hunter Competitions.

Immaculately presented combinations took to the arena for the Show Horse competition. Charlee Latham took out the primary division riding Merivale Park Giorgio, while Hannah Bufton took out the secondary division riding Towering Inferno. 

In the Show Hunter and Working Hunter Divisions, Stella Horspole, Amelia Baines, Jazi French and Annie Creed were victorious.
