Show Horse Committee Report - August 2020

EV Show Horse is pleased to report on the meeting conducted remotely on the evening of Tuesday 18th August.

Much of the meeting centered around alternate dates and plans for events scheduled for 2020 and 2021.

2020 EGO SUNSENSE NATIONALS
Following the postponement of the December dates, several alternate dates have been considered for the most practical way to conduct the Nationals. These options have been presented to the EASHC for consideration and we will advise you are soon as any decision is made.

The EASHC is sympathetic and understanding of our situation and have agreed to be guided by our suggestions and work with us for the most suitable outcome.

2021 BARASTOC
Plans are proceeding for Barastoc to be conducted on the scheduled dates of 12, 13, 14 February. We sincerely hope that we will be able to host our state show horse titles as well as the numerous breed rings that make Barastoc such a popular event.

However should an alternate date become necessary, your committee has given this consideration and has other options pending.

SPRING and REGIONAL SHOWS
Regretfully due to the current COVID-19 situation, we have been forced to cancel both the Spring and Regionals shows scheduled for October. However should an opportunity enable us to conduct these shows later in the year, plans and structures are in place for that to occur.

Similarly the Young Ambassador weekend will take place if timing allows this.

SUMMER SHOW
The popular Summer Breeds Extravaganza which includes Showhorse rings is currently proceeding as planned on 9,10 January .

All breed rings are fully booked.

The schedule for the Show Horse rings is being finalised and will be released shortly.

MEASURING
Your committee is very aware of the necessity for a large number of horses to be measured.

WPNEC has assured us that they will make the measuring facilities available to us regardless of other events being conducted at Werribee Park, as soon as Govt regulations allow us to conduct such activities.

JUDGES PANEL
It is of concern and disappointing that the E.A. Show Horse Judges Panel has been stagnant for too too long with few additions in recent years. We understand this is also a concern for all other states. Unless new judges are appointed, we will continue to see a reduction in judge numbers simply due to the age factor of the existing panel. This, of course, not only affects state events but also national and interstate shows.

We would therefore earnestly urge any suitably qualified people to apply for judging accreditation. We understand that many competitors are reluctant to join the judges panel whilst competing. However if every state encourages competent people to join their panels, it will assist each state to utilise interstate judges when required.

Please give this serious thought as without judges we will not have shows. This is an opportunity to give something back to the sport that has given to you.

Members, please remember that your committee represents you and as such we are receptive to any constructive input you may wish to put forth.

Keep well and stay safe and we look forward to being together again in the show ‘arena’ soon.
