Jumping Victoria Development Squad

Aims of the Jumping Victoria Development Squad are to be:

  • Develop Show Jumping Skills.
  • Consolidate Competition confidence (e.g. warm-up approaches, important course walking techniques etc)
  • Educate riders regarding Show Jumping etiquette/standards/rules
  • Increase knowledge of horse management in relation to feeding/nutrition/shoeing and overall wellbeing of the competition horse
  • Expand Show Jumping cohort connections and strengthen show jumping "friendships"

CRITERIA AND SQUAD SELECTION 2018

Selection Criteria for the Jumping Victoria Development Squad includes:

  • Possibly competing regularly at EA events/competitions but at below 115cm
  • Emphasis still at interschool or PCAV level competitions
  • Building experience at major competitions (interschool nationals, ASJC, etc.)
  • Possibly have established coaching relationship, but less likely to receive @event support
  • Limited or newly established show jumping cohort connections

FORMAT

Four squad levels as detailed:

- Development Squad 1 1.10 – 1.20m
- Development Squad 2 1.00 – 1.10m
- Development Squad 3 0.80 – 1.00m < experience
- Development Squad 4 0.80 - 1.00m > experience

  • Minimum attendance 3 of the five clinics per annum; cost charged per attendance.
  • Riders assigned to a specific squad development coach
  • Guest coaches introduced for specific lessons (e.g., flat work, fitness work)
  • Horse management skills enhanced
  • Social/team building exercised

SQUAD MEMBER REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must be current financial members of the EA and are eligible to participate as squad members until December of the year in which they turn 21 years old.
  • Cost is $200 per weekend inclusive of venue facility fees (yard for horse) and camping charges. This payment is for three riding sessions and any other supplementary training/ guest speakers that are timetabled and option for breakfast on Sunday morning.
  • Additional horses may be accommodated if numbers permit and will be billed at each Squad as required.
  • Riders must agree to fully participate in funded squad activities as per the signed Squad agreement.
  • Once selected you will receive a letter to advise you of which squad you will be in and your coach.
  • You will then need to book online your attendance and make payment at time of booking. Bookings will cut off 2 weeks prior to each squad weekend. (Portal for this to be advised)
